לבט

The root לבט appears three times in TaNa”KH:

BDB translates as thrust down, out, or away, or to be ruined.  כנעני reads this as to stumble or fall.

The root is used in the Dead Sea Scrolls.  In Rabbinic Hebrew the root takes on the meaning to oppress or to be oppressed or suffer.

I don’t see a clear development to the modern sense of deliberation or mulling over or have doubts.
